The Won Institute of Graduate Studies is an accredited graduate school offering professional training at a Master’s Degree level in Acupuncture Studies, Applied Meditation Studies and Won Buddhist Studies.
Every program includes non-denominational sitting and moving meditation. This intensive focus on meditation helps create compassionate, competent meditation teachers and gives acupuncturists a profound tool in treating patients. In addition, this practice aids students in developing a deep sense of awareness by becoming more perceptive to the needs of others.
Students enrolled in our accredited three-year Master’s Degree program gain a comprehensive understanding of Chinese medical theory and the ancient and modern uses of acupuncture. The program includes an emphasis on western biomedical sciences to develop informed practitioners capable of communicating across medical disciplines and in integrated healthcare settings.
Rigorous academic instruction and early clinical exposure are hallmarks of the program. From day one, our students observe experienced faculty practicing many styles of acupuncture and related techniques. Instruction in two traditions of acupuncture — Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Acupuncture — form the foundations of our acupuncture training.
Meditation is incorporated throughout the entire program with courses in both sitting and moving meditation. The practice of meditation helps our students develop a strong sense of personal awareness and provides another tool to help treat patients.
The mission of the Won Institute of Graduate Studies is to provide quality graduate-level professional education and training in the practical applications of spirituality and the healing arts for the well-being of individuals and society. It is guided by the conviction that meditation is essential to spiritual cultivation, and that spiritual cultivation is necessary to balance material and technological advances.
